Course Description
This five day instructor-led course provides information on how to use Hitachi’s software tools to configure the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform™ V and Hitachi Universal Storage Platform™ VM. It familiarizes the learner with the technology and terminology of the current Hitachi Basic Operating System (BOS) and key software utilities such as Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning, Hitachi Virtual Partition Manager, Hitachi ShadowImage® Heterogeneous Replication, Hitachi HiCommand® Dynamic Link Manager, and Hitachi Universal Volume Manager. The learner will complete numerous hands-on lab activities designed to build the skills necessary to install and operate the key software utilities presented during the course. It provides an opportunity to work with UNIX® and Microsoft® Windows systems integrated with these storage systems.
Target Audience
Individuals needing an in-depth understanding and hands-on experience with the key software utilities available on the enterprise level Hitachi Data Systems platforms.
Prerequisites
General knowledge of terms and concepts associated with open systems operating environments along with a working knowledge of the English language are required.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the learner should be able to:
• Identify and describe the software product offerings on the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V and Hitachi Universal Storage Platform VM
• Use the Hitachi Storage Navigator program to define I/O paths between the host server and storage system (LUN Mapping, LUN Security)
• Implement volume management functions, such as LUSE and VLL: Custom Volumes
• Describe the purpose and key features of the Hitachi Data Retention Utility
• Explain how to assign access attributes to logical volumes using the Data Retention Utility
• Perform Hitachi Cache Residency Manager feature operations
• Discuss the purpose and features of Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager software
• Describe the GUI screens of Dynamic Link Manager software and the operations performed
• Use the Hitachi Universal Volume Manager software
• Describe the purpose and key features of Hitachi Virtual Partition Manager software
• Implement Virtual Partition Manager software using the Storage Navigator program
• Identify the functions, key features and configuration requirements of Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning SoftwareDiscuss purpose and features of Hitachi ShadowImage Heterogeneous Replication operations and Copy-on-Write Snapshot software
• Describe key differences in current software products operations from operations on previous generation platforms
